At last...
Matthew 24: the ‘Olivet Discourse’...
Jesus the
Messiah walks out of the temple for the very last time, telling his
disciples:
“There shall not be left here one
stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down”
Surely He’s
joking!
This is one of the wonders of the world and they haven’t even finished
construction!
Four disciples (Peter, James, John & Andrew) follow Jesus to
the Mount of Olives, bursting with questions...
- When will this happen?
- What sign will show you’re coming back?
- ...or when time’s up?
Jesus
doesn’t answer ‘when’, but warns: Don’t be deceived! and... Don’t
be troubled!
Notice what
else He says...
“Ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” (That can’t be the Church)
“He
that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”
Is He talking about losing eternal
salvation? No, this is the Jewish Prophet-Messiah warning privately that the faithful face
persecution and death in End Times.
Which gospel
will be ‘preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations’?
The ‘gospel of the
kingdom’ – not the gospel of grace.
By the way,
here is what official Roman historian Flavius Josephus tells us:
“Caesar gave orders that they should now
demolish the entire city and temple but should leave...so much of the wall as
enclosed the city on the west side.” ~70 A.D.
Guess who?...at that same western wall! |
So was Jesus
correct in His prediction about the temple?
